Ongoing Research from the UK Barrett's Oesophagus Registry ("UKBOR")
New data from UKBOR suggests that the diagnosed prevalence of Barrett's oesophagus is increasing in the UK. This may exceed the increasing number of endoscopies being performed. This is important given the increasing incidence of oesophageal adenocarcinoma in the UK.

- Piers Gatenby (Surgical Research Fellow): A study of the natural history of Barrett's oesophagus with particular reference to the incidence of adenocarcinoma and the influence thereon of drug, endoscopic and surgical treatment.
Funded by Wexham Gastrointestinal Trust Reg Charity 291586.
- James Ramus (Surgical Research Fellow): A study of Barrett's oesophagus in the UK: patient profile and variations in diagnostic criteria and surveillance practice.
- Angela Wong (Medical Research Fellow): A case control study of the risk factors for the development of adenocarcinoma in Barrett's oesophagus.
Funded by Havering Hospital Research and Development Fund and by the Medical Research Council.
- A sibling pair study to identify Barrett's oesophagus susceptibility genes.
Funded by Association for International Cancer Research.
